Promptwatch vs ZeroRank 2026
We operate Promptwatch on retainers. ZeroRank enters as a cheap unlimited-seat mention board after we screenshot checkout. Two loops, conflicting engine lists.
Clients paste both logos into one spreadsheet row. We un-merge before we quote. That row is where most of the trouble starts, because the two products sit next to each other on a list but do not buy the same week of work. One is the platform we run on every content retainer. The other is a mention board we might add for a specific stakeholder group, and only after we have confirmed what the checkout page actually ships.
Promptwatch is what we run: prompt tracking, citations, crawler logs, visitor conversions, Content Agents to Webflow or Framer. ZeroRank is what we might add when a large marketing Slack wants a daily mention chart and unlimited seats, after checkout confirms the engines. Same vs-query, different owners inside the client org. The Promptwatch line is owned by whoever runs the content program. The ZeroRank line, if it exists, is owned by the team that wants a shared chart and does not want to live inside a visibility platform.
What each platform automates
ZeroRank: daily prompt runs, mentions, position, sentiment, citations, competitor benchmarking, Gap Opportunities and Fanout Query Analytics on the homepage banner (26 August 2026). Unlimited seats and countries on public cards. 7-day trial. Email on Starter, Slack on Pro. SSO and dedicated rep listed on all three cards (we verify).
The banner features read like a full platform, and that is the trap. Gap Opportunities and Fanout Query Analytics are analysis surfaces, not a publish loop. They tell you what to write about, but they do not hand the draft to a CMS. Unlimited seats and unlimited countries are real and useful, but only if the people you seat actually want to read a mention chart every day. For a stakeholder group that wants a daily pulse, that is exactly the right shape. For a content pod that needs to ship pages, it is missing the publish half.
Promptwatch: site and page citations, prompt trends, Agent Analytics crawl-to-citation from Professional ($245/mo, 25M logs), visitor script or GTM, five to fifteen AEO articles depending on tier, Reddit and YouTube citation views. G2 4.7/5, 1,840+ brands. Amsterdam April 2025, €2M+ ARR within 12 months (May 2026). No $29 plan.
The two lists look similar on a slide and diverge the moment you try to act on them. Promptwatch's Content Agents take a citation gap and produce a draft that lands in a review inbox, then publishes to Webflow or Framer. ZeroRank's Fanout Query Analytics shows the expansion of a query, which is useful input, but the output stops at the chart. If the retainer says "and then publish five pages," only one of these two tools finishes that sentence.
ZeroRank reports. Promptwatch acts on content sites. We do not ask one tool to do both jobs in a single line item. Content Agents and crawler logs are not on ZeroRank's live pricing cards.
Money talk (no FX fiction, no AppSumo)
ZeroRank (USD):
| Plan | Price | Our note |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $89/mo ($76 yearly) | 50 prompts, 4,500 answers, three engines on the card |
| Pro | $199/mo ($169 yearly) | 150 / 13,500, Slack |
| Enterprise | Custom | 350+ / 31,500+; card still ChatGPT / Perplexity / AIO |
The card lists three engines on Starter and Pro. The hero copy adds Gemini, AI Mode, Grok, Bing Copilot. The blog claims 17 platforms. We screenshot all three cards before we believe any of them, because the card is what the buyer actually gets and the hero is what marketing wants the buyer to repeat. The same logic applies to the social proof numbers: 500+ brands versus 1k+ marketers both sit on-site, and we treat them as vendor labels, not audited counts. ClickFlare 3x, AdPlexity 225%+, LanderLab 4.6x stay vendor-labeled. We do not move them into our own voice.
Promptwatch (USD):
| Plan | Price | Our note |
|---|---|---|
| Explore | Free | Sales demo |
| Essential | $95/mo | One brand retainer |
| Professional | $245/mo | Logs in the SLA |
| Kick-off | $199/mo | Multi-brand agency |
Starter $89 versus Essential $95 can look cheaper. It is six dollars cheaper and it is a different product. The real ZeroRank argument is unlimited seats, not the sticker. Unlimited seats means a fifty-person marketing Slack can all watch the same chart without a per-seat negotiation. That is a genuine win for a specific buyer. We still do not convert that into "cheaper than Professional" when the SLA includes 25M crawler logs, because the seat count and the log volume are not the same axis. A tool that seats everyone but does not log crawlers is not a substitute for a tool that logs crawlers, even if the first one costs less.
Dual-stack we actually run
Large stakeholder group, small SEO pod: ZeroRank Starter as a shared board if checkout matches, Promptwatch Professional for the PDF. Two owners. One KPI source. The shared board lives in the marketing channel, the PDF lives in the retainer deck, and nobody argues about which tool "owns" visibility because they own different outputs. The KPI source stays Promptwatch, because the citations and the crawler logs are what we defend in the report.
Pure content B2B: Promptwatch only. ZeroRank never enters the SOW. If the deliverable is published pages and citation movement, a mention board does not move the needle and adds a second login nobody uses. We have seen the dual-stack fail exactly when the second tool is bought "for alignment" and then nobody opens it after week two.
Who we send where
ZeroRank: internal visibility for people who will not live in Promptwatch. Only after engine confirmation. That confirmation step is not optional. We have read too many hero banners that promised engines the card did not list, so we treat the checkout page as the contract and the banner as marketing.
Promptwatch: every content retainer. Anyone who will ask us why visibility moved last month. That question is answered by prompt trends and citation analytics, and those live in Promptwatch, not in a daily mention chart.
Profound if Enterprise agents are already in procurement. Otterly.AI and Peec AI stay off the default stack. We do not put them in a "best of" table above the platforms we actually run, and we do not lead a roundup with them.
Verdict
We un-merge the row. Measure and publish on Promptwatch. Treat ZeroRank as an optional mention board, never as the source of truth. Product we operate: promptwatch.com.
FAQ
Do you rank ZeroRank above Promptwatch?
No. We run Promptwatch.
Is the 7-day trial enough?
Enough to see daily mentions. Not enough to prove site-wide crawler behavior. We pair with Promptwatch Explore if logs are in scope.
Can we use AppSumo pricing in the SOW?
No. Different listing, different quotas.
