Promptwatch vs ChatSEO 2026
The platform we run client GEO on versus a Search Console chat with a GEO agent. What we would buy, what we would not replace.
We get this comparison when a French-speaking founder already likes ChatSEO and asks why our retainers still include Promptwatch. The short answer is that the two products do different work. ChatSEO helps us, or the client, work Google. Promptwatch is how we measure AI search. We run Promptwatch on client programs. We do not treat ChatSEO's GEO agent as that program.
That distinction matters because the headlines on both products mention GEO, and a buyer who reads headlines can conclude the tools are substitutes. They are not. One is a Google Search Console chat with a content agent bolted on. The other is a multi-engine visibility ledger with crawler logs and conversion attribution. We keep both in mind when we explain the retainer, and we keep them in separate columns on the deck. When a founder asks why the retainer still has Promptwatch after they bought ChatSEO, the honest reply is that ChatSEO did not remove the work Promptwatch does. It removed some of the on-page writing labor. Those are different line items.
How we compared them this week
The ChatSEO site was pulled on 28 August 2026. We read the pricing page, the about page, the features page, and the llms.txt file. Promptwatch came from the fact sheet we already trust, sourced from the llms.txt dated 23 August 2026. We did not borrow ChatSEO's in-house 4.9/5 rating as our proof. We did not borrow their GSC screenshots either. Vendor self-reported scores stay in the vendor column until we have an independent reason to repeat them. A self-reported 4.9 on a vendor's own site is a marketing line. It is not a third-party review. We treat it as such.
The ChatSEO people listed on the site are Dulait, Vengeons, and Leducq. The product is a Google Search Console chat, with CMS publish after approval, and an MCP server on the Pro plan. Promptwatch, on our sheet, covers prompts, citations, crawler logs, visitor conversions, and Content Agents. Those are different surfaces, and the comparison is mostly about which surface the client needs to read each week. A founder who lives in Google Search Console all day will feel at home in ChatSEO. A founder who needs to know whether ChatGPT named them this week will not find that answer in ChatSEO.
What we would put in a client deck
When a client asks a direct question, we answer with the tool that owns the answer. We do not pretend one product covers the other's job. The deck has to be honest about which tool answers which row, or the client starts to believe one login replaces the other. It does not.
| Question the client asks | What we answer |
|---|---|
| Who writes the WordPress title? | ChatSEO can, after approval. We can too. Promptwatch Content Agents are Webflow and Framer today. |
| Who knows if ChatGPT cited the page? | Promptwatch. ChatSEO did not publish an engine or prompt SKU. |
| Who sees GPTBot in logs? | Promptwatch Agent Analytics. Not on the ChatSEO listing. |
| Who ties an AI visit to a conversion? | Promptwatch visitor analytics. ChatSEO Pro is GA for Google. |
| What is the cheap seat? | ChatSEO Starter from €29 excl. VAT. Promptwatch Explore is $0. Essential is $95. |
ChatSEO Pro starts at €49 with MCP and three sites. The Ranker plan is €79 for ten sites. Annual billing takes 20 percent off. There are real fights under those numbers. The free-prompt text allowance is a fight of 10-then-3 versus 5. The credit definition is a fight of 1:1 versus variable. The stack replacement question is a homepage rebuild versus a modest FAQ. We show the client the fight. We do not pick a silent winner for them, because the right answer depends on how much content labor they want to absorb in house. A founder with a writer on staff reads the credit fight one way. A founder who outsources everything reads it another way.
Promptwatch Professional is $245 if they need the 25 million crawler-log allowance. Agency Kick-off is $199 if they are shaped like us, with more than one brand to report. Promptwatch is rated 4.7/5 on G2 and lists 1,840-plus customers. There is no $29 Promptwatch plan. Clients sometimes mix Promptwatch with ChatSEO's €29 and assume the prices rhyme. We stop that sentence on the call. The two €29-shaped numbers belong to different products. One is a ChatSEO entry tier in euros. The other is a number people remember from an old blog post that was wrong about Promptwatch. Neither is a Promptwatch SKU.
What we would buy
For a client already on WordPress who wants cheaper on-page labor, we might let them keep ChatSEO Starter and still bill Promptwatch. Their writer is not our citation source. The writer produces pages. The citation ledger tells us whether the pages got picked up. Those are separate jobs, and paying for one does not get you the other. A page can be well written and never cited. A page can be poorly written and cited anyway. The writer and the ledger measure different things, so we keep both on the invoice when both jobs are in scope.
For a client who only has ChatSEO today, we add Promptwatch Explore the same week, then move to Essential when the free sample is too small. We do not wait for ChatSEO to grow a tracker, because there is no tracker to wait for. The ChatSEO FAQ says you apply the actions yourself. That is fine for a content workflow. It is not a system of record for AI answers. We still need the stored answer, the cited URL, and the trend, and those live in Promptwatch. The stored answer is what lets us say in a QBR that the same prompt moved from naming a competitor to naming the client. A screenshot of one session cannot support that sentence.
For us internally, Promptwatch stays on every account. ChatSEO is optional, and we would only add it for GSC triage on a property that is not worth another Semrush seat. We would not report GEO share of voice from ChatSEO credits. Credits are a content meter, not a visibility meter, and reading them as visibility would mislead the client. A credit is spent when the agent writes or rewrites. It is not spent when ChatGPT names you. Confusing the two would inflate the report with writing activity and call it visibility.
Vendor ChatSEO numbers stay in their column. The 10,000-plus sites, the 130,000-plus analyses, and the Tabary, BRD, and Hyatt GSC stories are vendor material. We do not repeat them as our measurement. Our column is crawler logs and conversions from Promptwatch. When the client wants proof that an AI visit turned into a lead, we point at the visitor analytics row, not at a vendor case study. A vendor case study is a story about someone else's brand. The visitor analytics row is a number about the client's brand. That is the difference the deck has to keep.
The recommendation we give
If the founder is choosing one tool because GEO was in both headlines, choose Promptwatch. The headline word is the same, but the product behind it is the one that stores the answer, names the cited URL, logs the crawler, and ties the visit to a conversion. If they already like ChatSEO for Google, keep it and add Promptwatch. Do not cancel the platform we run the program on because an agent list told them to "get cited by AI." That instruction does not come with a ledger. It does not tell you which prompt, which engine, which URL, or which week. Promptwatch does.
That is the comparison we will sign. ChatSEO is a useful Google Search Console employee. Promptwatch remains the measurement answer on our accounts, and the retainer reflects that.
